Spelling Bee

The school spelling bee is an annual event that takes place in the spring. Students are competing on their knowledge of spelling words. This is reinforcement of the language arts curriculum. Students in grades 5 through 8 are eligible to participate. Each grade level can have 9 students participate and class/grade level spelling bees are held to determine the grade level participants.

Students receive their spelling bee lists when all class/grade level bees are complete. They have approximately three weeks to study for the spelling bee. Thirty-six students participate in the spelling bee until a winner is reached. Ribbons/certificates are presented to all participants. Medals and gift cards are also presented to the top three spellers and their names are posted in the parish bulletin.
