Green Team

The Green Team was established in 2009 as a "zero hour" student service organization. The club is open to all students in grades 4 - 8 interested in engaging in real-life problem solving as we strive to make our school a more eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and attractive campus. Through education, members of our group empower themselves to implement solutions to current local and global environmental issues.

Participation

Participating students determine the direction this organization will take depending on current issues. To participate, students dedicate their time to our monthly zero-hour meetings on Friday mornings (7:00 AM -7:50 AM ) as well as dedicating their lunch recess to manage the various ecological programs we promote on campus.

An annual anonymous application process is used to select a leadership team of four students. A charter has been created to guide the organization. Student led ad hoc committees handle a variety of projects (for example: cafeteria and pizza box brigades, recycling, and public awareness and outreach). Students will engage in real-life problem solving as they strive to make St. Michael a more eco-friendly, energy-efficient campus. Through education, members will empower themselves to implement solutions to current local and global environmental issues.

St. Michael School first achieved Michigan Green School status in 2011. By completing over 20 green projects, our school earned a ranking as an Evergreen Green School in 2019.
