Welcome, new families! We know that starting at a new school comes with lots of questions and we’re here to make your transition as smooth and joyful as possible.

 

This FAQ page addresses the most frequently asked questions about daily routines, uniforms, communication tools, volunteering, and other topics. If you don’t find what you need here, our school staff is just a phone call or email away.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the school hours?

K-8th grade:  7:55 am - 3:05 pm
Preschool 3:  Tues., Wed., and Thurs. 8:10 am – 11:00 am
Preschool 4 Half Day:  M-F 8:10 am – 11:00 am
Preschool 4 Full Day:  M-F 8:10 am – 2:50 pm

When does the school year start and end?

School starts in late August and ends in early June. Preschool and Kindergarten end in late May. Annual calendars are provided to parents in August.

What are the drop-off and pick-up procedures?

1st-8th grades: Morning drop-off utilizes the car loop or parking and walking from the Church parking lot. Students walk to their assigned doors and are met by their teacher. Administrative staff and school safeties are out by the car line to help. At dismissal, parents park in the school parking lot and pick up students at their assigned doors. 
Preschool 4: Parents park in the school lot and walk their child to the door by the playscape.  
They are met by their teacher and sign in their child. At dismissal, parents park, meet their child and teacher at the same door, and sign their child out.
Preschool 3:  Parents park in the school parking lot and bring their children to the Flagpole door. They are met by the teacher and sign in their child. At dismissal, parents park, meet their child and teacher at the same door, and sign their child out.
Do you offer bus transportation?
Yes, we offer bus transportation for our students through Livonia Public Schools. For students in kindergarten through 8th grade who are residents in the LPS district, a busing option is offered. 
Do you wear uniforms? 
Yes. Uniforms consist of polos with uniform bottoms. Details and guidelines are dependent upon grade. For more information, please refer to the Uniform Guideline Sheet provided in your information folder from your tour or visit our Dress Code page. 
Do you offer lunches for purchase? 
Yes, we provide entrees and sides, including salads and fruit and vegetable snacks, for purchase quarterly. Our on-site kitchen team prepares the food in-house. On Fridays, we offer pizza for purchase to support our 8th-grade students. Milk is also available for sale. 
Do you offer an Extended Day, Latchkey, or After-School Program? 
Yes. We offer a before- and after-school extended day program for full-day preschool through 8th grade. The morning extended day is available for the half-day 4-year preschool program. What specials are offered? 
We offer a variety of engaging specials to enrich your child's education. Depending on their grade, students can enjoy gym, music, library, Spanish, computers, and art.

Starting in 5th grade, students have the option to join the band. Our Jr. High students are also offered exciting electives like art, band, drafting, and robotics.

Do students have access to iPads, tablets, or laptops in the classroom?
Yes, learning includes a Computer Lab and multiple iPad carts. iPads and computers are used in the classroom as academically required for classwork.
Who is part of your Administration?
We have a Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, and Safety Officer.
What are the safety measures in place?
Our school prioritizes safety with secure entrances, regular drills, and a comprehensive emergency response plan. All exterior doors are locked, and security cameras are on all entrance points. Interior cameras monitor the hallways. All visitors are screened before being buzzed in. A full-time safety officer monitors the school, partners with the Administrative staff, and leads safety protocols. Our Emergency Response Safety Team meets throughout the year.
Do you have a sports program?
Yes. St. Michael the Archangel is the home of the Gaels! Our Athletic Department offers sports for grades 4-8 and an intermural sports program, Mini-Gaels, for our Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students. To learn about our sports programs, please visit our Athletic Department page. 
Do you have Teacher Aides?
Yes, there are full-time aides for the 3-Year Preschool, 4-Year Preschool, and Kindergarten. There are part-time aides in 1st grade.
Do students attend Mass?
K-8th students attend Mass weekly on Wednesdays and Holy Days.
Do the students say the Pledge of Allegiance?
Yes, daily. They also say the Hail Mary prayer every morning and the St. Michael prayer at dismissal.
Do the students have Buddies in another grade?
Yes, upper-grade students are matched with lower-grade students for special events. This builds bridges and relationships between our students. Students enjoy this program because it allows them to make connections with their buddy inside and outside the school! Buddies participate in various activities, such as reading together, playing games, attending in-school events, going to church together, and more!
What clubs or other activities are offered?
We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, and various clubs to cater to diverse interests. Please refer to the Beyond the Classroom flier in the folder or visit our Enrichment page.
