Young 5

young 5Our St. Michael Young 5’s Program offers a transitional year between Preschool 4 and Kindergarten, allowing younger learners the time to develop essential social, emotional, motor, and academic skills.  Our program places an emphasis on student cooperation and classroom management, and it provides a sturdy foundation for your child’s future success in school.

In addition, our Young 5’s Program encourages learners to work together and build meaning for themselves; as well as creates a valuable bridge between the fundamentals of Preschool and the academic structure of Kindergarten.  Young 5’s follows a similar schedule to our Kindergarten program (7:55 am-3:05 pm, M-F) and includes special classes in Music, Physical Education, and Library, in addition to field trips.  Extended Day before and after school is also available for our Young 5’s students.  Eligibility for the program requires a child to be turning five years old between May 1 and December 1 of the calendar year that the child would be entering into the program, as well as having a teacher recommendation.

Overall, our Young Fives Program provides a student with the developmental stepping stones of a more scaffolded Kindergarten curriculum.  Students who complete the Young Fives Program will move on to our Kindergarten Program the following school year.

Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten program nurtures a child's positive self-confidence, respect for others, and cognitive growth that provides a foundation for life-long learning. Certified teachers and teacher aides in every classroom prepare students for Primary School through an engaging curriculum.
