Kindergarten Curriculum

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Understand the world is a gift from God
• Recognize that God loves us
• Introduce prayer and faith life
• Introduce Scripture as God's word

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Encode all letters
• Blend sounds to decode words
• Identify long and short vowel sounds
• Identify sight words
• Introduce rhyming words
• Identify parts of a book
• Compare fiction vs. nonfiction text
• Read emergent reader texts

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Draw accurate pictures and use appropriate coloring to match words
• Understand punctuation, capitalization, and spacing
• Use correct letter formation of upper- and lowercase letters
• Decode words in order to write words independently
• Present information on a specific topic

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Develop number sense (reading, counting, writing, sequencing)
• Introduce addition and subtraction concepts
• Identify and describe shapes
• Review basic concepts of measurement and time
• Explore graphs as a way to show data

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Introduce forces and interactions: push and pull
• Introduce independent relationships in ecosystems: animals, plants, and their environment
• Explore weather and climate
• Introduce the engineering design process

Students in Kindergarten will:

 

• Introduce the American Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance
• Introduce concepts of rules and responsibility
• Introduce basics of calendar time and timelines
• Introduce the use of maps and globes to locate places
• Introduce decision-making and citizen involvement
• Introduce the importance of our community helpers
