Our SMA In-Person Learners have been at school for a little over a month. Teachers and students have successfully followed the new safety protocols and have been able to focus on lessons with a seamless transition to their curriculums at each grade level.
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School took many steps to prepare for this safe return. (see our Return to School Plan) The school added extra hand-sanitizing stations, installed touchless faucets and flushers in all the bathrooms, added water bottle filling stations, reconfigured classrooms and marked all the floors to guide students in proper social distancing. The school has also implemented daily screening and requires face coverings for all students and staff.
Students have been able to return to weekday Mass by grade level, and each day take time for daily prayer and reflections. All Masses are being held in the gym, while the RGH construction project is underway. Gym classes, as a result, were moved to the school parking lot. Mrs. Blackmer has worked hard each day to set up the area to offer fun, active lessons for all students P4-8th grade.
Our Remote Learners have been able to follow the curriculum and lessons from home using google classroom. Many of our remote learning students have opted to start the semester at home, with plans to return to in-person learning. When the classrooms were reconfigured for social distancing, these students were accounted for so safety could be maintained throughout the school year.
Return to Competition - Several of our athletic teams were able to form and start competing during September. The SMA Varsity Soccer, Varsity Volleyball and JV Volleyball teams have had a great start with an undefeated record. Varsity Cross Country won their first two meets and our younger JV Cross Country and Soccer teams have done a great job competing against teams that often have older players. For many student-athletes (which include remote learners), the opportunity to compete has offered a much-needed outlet for safe and physical activity.
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School remains committed to inspiring our students to be followers of their Catholic faith, academic excellence and moral leaders. We are thankful to our community for their support, prayers and flexibility as we all face new challenges to educate our students.
