Identify key ideas and details, understand craft and structure, make connections between text, and comprehend both literature and informational texts.
Develop metacognitive reading skills: predicting, compare/contrast, main idea, summarizing, and visualizing
Refine decoding skills to produce optimal reading fluency
Explore the literary distinctions among a variety of genres of literature, including short story, novel, folktale, and play
Introduce response-to-literature and informational text writing in the form of short essays written with recalled information from literary and informational text to support their writing.
Explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction text
